Maintenance method of aramid fiber packing

Aramid packing is braided from high quality dupont aramid/kevlar fiber with PTFE impregnation and lubricant additive. In the process of use, the aramid fiber packing can not just be ignored after installation. Under different use conditions and different weaving forms, the aramid fiber packing has different performance and life. So how should we maintain it after installing?

1.After the packing is installed, it can be put into operation. Before the actual operation, a slow operation test should be carried out manually. During the rotation, if the phenomenon is too heavy, it may be caused by the over-tightening of the packing gland, and the gland screw can be loosened appropriately until the rotational frictional resistance becomes smaller and the seal does not leak. During official operation, if it is found that the friction force is too large and the temperature of the stuffing box rises, it may be caused by lack of lubricant or excessive preload. Measures should be taken to adjust and, where permitted, to control the appropriate amount of leakage from the seal. For most of the centrifugal pumps with harmless media, a small amount of droplet leakage should normally be maintained for cooling and lubrication.

2. After the packing seal is in official operation, it is necessary to adhere to the patrol observation on time, and pay attention to whether the leakage of the braided packing and the temperature of the stuffing box meet the requirements. If the packing is abnormal, it should be adjusted immediately. If the leakage of the packing seal is greater than the allowable value, the gland can be tightened, but not more than one turn at a time, and the allowable leakage of the packing seal should still be maintained to prevent the frictional heat from increasing suddenly and burning the packing.

3. For the packing seal on the dynamic seal, especially the sealing part with high linear speed, cooling water or lubricant should be poured continuously, which is a powerful measure to improve the sealing effect and prolong the life of the packing.
